The Sandy Fire continued to burn in Simi Valley on Monday after first being reported late Monday morning near Sandy Avenue, as Ventura County Fire and partner agencies expanded their response. Officials said the fire grew through the morning as additional air tankers and helicopters were assigned to the incident.
Ventura County Fire reported that the fire remained active in brush-covered hillsides, with crews focusing on structure protection in neighborhoods closest to the burn area. Firefighters used a combination of hand crews, engines, bulldozers, and aircraft to slow the fire’s spread while improving containment lines.
Evacuation orders and warnings remained in effect for several Simi Valley zones, according to Ventura County Emergency Information. A temporary evacuation point was established at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park, where residents could receive updates and assistance. No injuries had been reported as of early afternoon.
Local schools implemented precautionary measures, including temporary evacuations and shelter-in-place directives, due to smoke and changing wind conditions. District officials said students were relocated safely and reunification procedures were in place where needed.
Weather remained a key factor, with earlier gusty winds easing slightly by midday. Fire officials said improving conditions could help crews strengthen containment lines, though they noted that progress would depend on wind behavior throughout the evening.
Ventura County Fire stated that updates would continue to be posted through official channels as additional information becomes available.
