Ventura County supervisors have approved a full replacement of the aging playground at Steckel Park, authorizing a modern redesign that emphasizes accessibility, safety, and multi‑generational use. The decision was finalized during the Board of Supervisors’ June 9 meeting, where officials approved the project’s design package, construction plans, and contract award.
The new playground will replace equipment that has been in place for more than two decades. County officials stated that the redesign focuses on creating an inclusive environment for children of all ages and abilities. Planned features include separate play zones for younger and older children, all‑abilities swings, climbing structures, multiple slides, and a custom oak‑tree‑themed play structure with integrated animal designs.
Additional improvements include ADA‑accessible pathways, poured‑in‑place safety surfacing, shade structures, a wheelchair‑accessible play storefront, and a covered ADA‑compliant picnic area. The project is funded through the Ventura County General Services Agency Parks Department Enterprise Fund.
Equipment delivery is scheduled for December 2026, with construction and installation expected to be completed by February 2027.
