Sandy Fire Fully Contained After Nine Days of Operations

The Sandy Fire in Simi Valley has reached full containment after nine days of firefighting operations, according to updated information from CAL FIRE. The wildfire, which began on May 18 off Sandy Avenue, burned 2,183 acres before crews secured the final section of open fire line on the night of May 27.

Fire activity has been minimal for several days, and the incident has remained within its established perimeter. Crews continued to work in steep terrain throughout the week, using infrared drones during nighttime operations to locate remaining hotspots. Day crews hiked into rugged areas to expose and extinguish pockets of heat as part of the mop‑up process.

As suppression needs decreased, the number of assigned personnel was reduced to approximately 55 firefighters. They continued strengthening containment lines, patrolling the burn area, and ensuring full extinguishment. CAL FIRE reported that the fire’s cause remains under investigation.

The Sandy Fire was active for nine days, with forward progress stopped earlier in the week as containment steadily increased. The incident is now in its final patrol and monitoring phase under the Ventura County Fire Department.
