Lesser Fire Quickly Stopped After Igniting Near Newbury Park High School

Firefighters contained a small vegetation fire in Newbury Park on Friday morning after it ignited in the brush near San Telmo Circle and Lesser Drive, just northwest of Newbury Park High School. The blaze, known as the Lesser Fire, was first reported at approximately 8:51 a.m. and initially estimated at around one acre. Crews later mapped the burn area at roughly half an acre as they worked to halt its spread.

Units from the Ventura County Fire Department arrived to find light to rapid fuels burning close to a residential neighborhood. As a precaution, evacuation orders were issued for homes on Barcelona Place and San Telmo Circle. Those orders were soon downgraded to warnings as firefighters gained control of the incident. By about 9:20 a.m., forward progress had stopped after crews established a wet line around the burn area.

VC Emergency confirmed that firefighters remained on scene through the morning to conduct mop‑up and ensure no remaining hotspots threatened nearby homes. No injuries or structural damage were reported.
