Christian Menefee has won the Democratic primary runoff in Texas’ 18th Congressional District, defeating Al Green. Menefee will face Ronald Whitfield in the November general election.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Menefee is the right pick for the district, citing his ability to deliver real results. Menefee has stood up against the Trump administration and has a track record of wins as a county attorney.
The Texas Tribune reports that Menefee and Green were the top two finishers in the March primary, with Menefee receiving 46% of the vote and Green receiving 44.2%. Neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote, leading to a runoff election.
Houston Public Media notes that Menefee has been endorsed by the Stand with Crypto industry group, which gave him an ‘A’ rating. Green, on the other hand, received an ‘F’ rating due to his votes against several crypto bills.
Ballotpedia reports that Menefee won the runoff election with 68.6% of the vote, while Green received 31.4%.
