Pothole Trail Realignment Completed in Piru Canyon

United Water Conservation District has completed an improved realignment of the Pothole Trail in Piru Canyon, carried out in partnership with the Los Padres Forest Association and Los Padres National Forest. The project replaces older, steeper trail segments with a more gradual and sustainable route designed to reduce erosion and improve long‑term trail durability.

According to United Water, the updated alignment follows modern trail‑building standards, including improved drainage features and a layout that better matches the natural terrain. The new route also provides expanded views of Piru Canyon and surrounding foothills.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony — May 17

A public ribbon‑cutting ceremony is scheduled for:

  • Sunday, May 17, 2026
  • 9:00 a.m.
  • Juan Fernandez Boat Ramp (shuttle parking location)

Following the ceremony, United Water will host a volunteer trail work event, offering participants an opportunity to assist with final touch‑up work along the new alignment.
