Texas voters returned to the polls on Tuesday for a series of primary runoff elections that produced several notable outcomes across statewide and congressional races. The night featured competitive contests in both parties, with multiple incumbents facing strong challenges and several districts selecting nominees for the November ballot.
In the Republican U.S. Senate runoff, early results reported by national outlets showed Ken Paxton holding a significant lead over John Cornyn. NBC News and CBS News both reported Paxton ahead by more than 25 percentage points based on available vote totals. While results have not yet been certified, the margin reflected a decisive shift within the state’s Republican electorate.
Democratic contests also saw movement, including the District 18 runoff where Christian Menefee led incumbent Al Green by a wide margin in reported results. Early tallies showed Menefee receiving more than two‑thirds of the vote, marking one of the most significant congressional challenges of the night.
Other competitive House runoffs included District 33, where Colin Allred held a reported lead over Julie Johnson, and District 24, where Kevin Burge secured a commanding advantage based on early vote counts. Several Republican districts also produced clear results, with candidates such as A. Mealer in District 9 and A. Bauman in District 16 holding strong leads in reported totals.
Statewide offices saw similar activity. In the Democratic runoff for lieutenant governor, Vikki Goodwin led Marcos Velez by a substantial margin in early reporting. On the Republican side, the race for Railroad Commissioner showed Bo French ahead of incumbent Jim Wright based on initial results.
The Texas Secretary of State will certify all results once counting is complete. Tuesday’s runoffs set the stage for the November general election, finalizing matchups in key districts and statewide positions across Texas.
