Aaron Rodgers will return to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2026 NFL season after agreeing to a one‑year contract, according to reports published Friday by outlets including CBS Sports, Bleacher Report, and Yahoo Sports. The agreement ends several months of uncertainty about whether the veteran quarterback would continue his career.
National reporting indicates the contract includes $22 million guaranteed, with incentives that could bring the total value to as much as $25 million. Several outlets noted the deal is agreed to but still pending final signatures.
Rodgers, who will be entering his 22nd NFL season, is expected to participate in the Steelers’ voluntary organized team activities beginning May 18. CBS Sports reported that Pittsburgh had previously applied an unrestricted free‑agent tender to retain negotiating rights before the agreement was reached.
The 42‑year‑old quarterback started 16 games for Pittsburgh last season, finishing with 3,322 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. His return reunites him with head coach Mike McCarthy, who previously coached Rodgers during their long tenure together in Green Bay.
The Steelers’ quarterback depth chart currently includes Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Drew Allar behind Rodgers.
