The Carolina Hurricanes earned a 3–2 overtime victory against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night at the Bell Centre, giving Carolina a 2–1 lead in the Eastern Conference Final. The win came after a tightly played matchup in which both teams traded early momentum before the Hurricanes controlled the late stages.
Carolina opened the scoring in the first period when Shayne Gostisbehere buried a rebound at 11:36, capitalizing on sustained offensive pressure. Montreal responded minutes later as Mike Matheson tied the game with a shot from the left circle. Carolina quickly regained the lead when Taylor Hall finished a second‑chance opportunity at 3:38, sending the Hurricanes into the intermission up 2–1.
Montreal evened the score in the second period on a power‑play goal from Lane Hutson, assisted by Cole Caufield and goaltender Jakub Dobes. The Canadiens generated limited offense afterward, as Carolina carried the pace and outshot Montreal heavily through the third period and into overtime.
The decisive moment came in overtime when Sebastian Aho redirected a shot into the net, securing the win for Carolina and extending the team’s perfect overtime record this postseason. The Hurricanes have now won five straight playoff games in overtime, each by a 3–2 score.
With the victory, Carolina moves ahead 2–1 in the best‑of‑seven series. Game 4 will also be played in Montreal as the Canadiens look to avoid falling into a deeper deficit before the series returns to Raleigh.
